Start with what matters to you.
Hip and knee problems can change how you move through your day. Whether you are managing joint symptoms, recovering from an injury or rebuilding after surgery, we begin with what you want to do more comfortably.
Common conditions we assess
- Hip and knee osteoarthritis
- Hip bursitis and tendonitis
- Patellofemoral pain syndrome (runner’s knee)
- Iliotibial band syndrome
- Patellar tendinitis (jumper’s knee)
- Knee sprains
These are examples, not a diagnosis or a fixed treatment plan. We assess what is causing your symptoms, how they affect your life and what you want to regain. Your plan draws on current research, clinical judgement and your response to care. For suitable musculoskeletal presentations, high-power Class IV laser or radial or focused shockwave may also have a role.
Your assessment
Your assessment considers your symptoms, walking and relevant movements, strength and activity demands. Following surgery, bring your surgeon’s instructions so these can inform your rehabilitation.
Your rehabilitation plan
Your plan may focus on strength, mobility, balance and gradually increasing activity. We help you understand the purpose of each part of your program and review your progress with you.
What can physiotherapy do for hip or knee osteoarthritis?
Assessment helps identify the activities you want to regain and your current strength and movement capacity. Exercise, education and a manageable progression of activity are central to care; the plan is adapted to your symptoms and goals.
Clinical reference for this topic
NICE guideline: osteoarthritis management. This reference informs our approach; your individual treatment depends on assessment.
Recovery goals that fit your life
Your goals might include walking farther, climbing stairs, getting out of a chair or returning to exercise. We turn those priorities into a plan that fits your daily routine.
What to discuss at your first visit
Tell us about walking tolerance, stairs, previous injuries or surgery and the activities you want to resume. Your comprehensive physical assessment includes treatment at the same visit.
How we review your progress
We can revisit walking, sit-to-stand and other relevant tasks to guide the next stage of your plan. Follow-up visits give us time to review your response, answer questions and adjust your exercise and hands-on care.
