Scott Vowles, PT, CAFCI
Scott is a Registered Physiotherapist. He is the owner and clinical director of Progress Physiotherapy. Scott graduated from Queen's University with a B.A. Health Studies (1997) and BSc Physical Therapy (2001). Scott has extensive post-graduate training in manual therapy, orthopaedics, and Active Release Techniques (ART®).
Scott is certified by the Acupuncture Foundation of Canada Institute (ACFI) in both anatomical and traditional Chinese acupuncture techniques. Scott served on the acupuncture advisory committee for the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario. This committee was integral for development and updating of procedures and policies in the regulation of acupuncture in Ontario.
Scott also treats patients with vestibular dysfunction, particularly Benign Positional Paroxysmal Vertigo (BPPV).
Upon graduating Scott worked at Kingston General Hospital spending time in a wide range of services including inpatient orthopaedics, cardiac, neurology and paediatrics. Scott then worked as a civilian therapist at CFB Kingston assessing and treating Canada's armed forces members and RMC varsity athletes. Scott has worked internationally at private practices in both Australia and New Zealand.
Scott serves as a clinical instructor and adjunct professor at Queen's University, teaching PT851* Muscle Dysfunction in the Physiotherapy Masters of Science program. He also volunteers his time with Queen's Football and Soccer, assessing and treating the athletes.
Cherisse Morettin PT, MScPT, BSc
Cherisse received her Masters in Physiotherapy in 2008 from Queen's University. She also completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Western Ontario, earning a Bachelors of Science in Kinesiology 2002. While attending Western, Cherisse worked as an athletic trainer for the Men's Varsity Rugby team, where she worked very closely with the reputable and world-renowned staff and trainers at The Fowler Kennedy Sports Medicine Clinic in London. Cherisse continues to work on the sidelines at football games with the Limestone City School Board.
Since graduation in 2008, Cherisse has been a valued member of our Progress Physiotherapy team. Since coming on board she has continued to grow as a professional and further develop her skill set and areas of knowledge as a physiotherapist. Some of her advanced training includes manual therapy, Soft Tissue Release, McKenzie (lumbar spine), acupuncture, and athletic and postural taping. Cherisse also has international experience in Africa working in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
Cherisse enjoys working with individuals across the lifespan. As an athlete herself, growing up participating in highly competitive sports and continuing to maintain a very active lifestyle, Cherisse has a special interest in treating athletes and active individuals. With a primary focus of returning her patients back to their preferred level of activity through functional and sport-specific rehabilitation. She also has a special interest in working with women during and post pregnancy.
Lisa Doherty, PT, B.P.H.E., MPT
Lisa is a registered physiotherapist. She graduated from the University of Western Ontario with a Masters of Physical Therapy in 2007. Lisa completed her undergraduate studies in Human Kinetics, Physical and Health Education from Laurentian University in her home town of Sudbury Ontario.
Lisa moved to Kingston to pursue her career as a physiotherapist and college instructor. Clinically, she has gained experience throughout her career in areas such as, cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation, acute care, stroke rehabilitation, athletic therapy and orthopaedics. She has completed a number of courses to support ongoing learning including manual therapy, Soft Tissue Release and athletic taping. She also has a certificate in office ergonomics. Aside from practicing clinically, Lisa is in her fourth year as an instructor for the KLC College Physiotherapy Assistant Program.
Lisa has also been a clinical instructor for the Queen's University Physiotherapy students for the last 3 years. A former competitive dancer and gymnast, Lisa was introduced to physiotherapy at a young age and now has a special interest in treating active individuals.
Lisa's mission is to provide quality care, giving 100% to achieving her clients personal goals!
Elizabeth Tata MCSP, BPT, MCISc(PT)
Liz Tata's professional career spans the U.K. and Canada and a variety of roles in physiotherapy. A graduate of Leeds School of Physiotherapy in England, and moving to Canada in 1972.
Liz has worked in hospitals in England, Winnipeg and London, Ontario. As a paediatric therapist for 8 years in Winnipeg, she provided physiotherapy to infants and children with acute and developmental disorders, in both hospitals and community-based settings. Her clinical experience in adult care ranges from acute and intensive care, to neurology and musculoskeletal rehabilitation.
Liz has been a physiotherapy instructor and faculty member at the Universities of Manitoba, Western Ontario and Queen's teaching in musculoskeletal physiotherapy and community-based rehabilitation. She has also taught and managed programs for community-based rehabilitation in Northern Ontario and internationally. She is recently retired from Queen's University and maintains a private practice with a focus on incontinence and pelvic pain disorders in men and women, an area of practice in which she has 20 years experience.
Joanne Annable BSc (Gerontology), RMT
Joanne is a graduate of the University of Guelph and the Sutherland Chan Massage Therapy School and Clinic. Joanne has been with Progress Physiotherapy since 2006 and specializes in Swedish massage. She has over 13 years experience as a Registered Massage Therapist.
Joanne began her career at a chiropractic clinic, in Kingston, after moving from Toronto. She has since expanded her talents as an in-demand massage therapist in the treatment of a wide range of special interests including infant and geriatric massage, spinal cord injuries and sports therapy. Joanne furthers her skills through teaching. She is a part-time professor at St. Lawrence College, in the Health Science department.
To balance her lifestyle between work and being a mother to three children Joanne remains active in hockey, swimming, biking, soccer, and running.
Laurie Pickles RMT, CanFitPro Fitness Instruction Specialist, CanFitPro Mind Body Fitness Specialist
Laurie is registered with the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario and a graduate of Sir Sandford Fleming College. She has been in practice since 2003 and continues to add to her therapeutic skill base. She has training in Deep tissue Swedish massage, Lymph Circulation/Drainage, Hydrotherapy, Rhythmic Mobilization, Myofascial Trigger Point Therapy, pregnancy massage and Reflexology. She is certified through CanFitPro (Canadian Fitness Professionals) as a group fitness leader and as a yoga based mind body fitness specialist.
Whether client's seek massage as a means to relieve stress, counter repetitive strain injuries, address postural imbalances, or to return to activities of daily living post injury, client needs and goals will be established and a treatment plan structured accordingly. She treats a broad cross section of clients from children to seniors, athletes to sedentary individuals. . She enjoys the multidisciplinary approach to client care, working with physiotherapists and chiropractors to benefit her client base.
Beyond the clinic Laurie embraces an active lifestyle for her family's health and balance as a runner and cyclist. She includes fitness in her day to day life, advocating healthy living to her clients within her scope of practice.
Michaela Schmitt, RMT, BSc, HK
Michaela graduated both the Kine-Concept Ontario Massage Therapy Program in 2007 and the University of Ottawa B.Sc. Honors Program in Human Kinetics in 2003.
She began her career in Ottawa at a growing massage therapy clinic before moving to Kingston and joining our team. Her post graduate studies include Hot Stone Massage Practitioner as well as Reiki Level 1, and utilizes Swedish, deep tissue, as well as myofascial release techniques. With experience as an athlete and personal trainer, Michaela enjoys treating various injuries she has had personal exposure to; as well as treating woman during pregnancy and providing infant massage. She stays current with massage therapy practices and promoting the profession as a clinical and outreach supervisor at Trillium College.
Michaela holds a good standing membership with the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario and looks forward to creating a massage treatment individualized for you!
Sonya Crook RMT
Sonya Crook is a graduate of the Canadian College of Massage and Hydrotherapy. Sonya has been practicing Massage Therapy for 10 years. Prior to massage she worked for the Limestone School Board as an Adolescent Care Worker. It has always been a desire of Sonya's to help others and she has chosen her career path with this as her primary focus. Sonya works with clients of all ages. She has extensive training in Swedish massage techniques, treating a wide range of conditions related to soft tissue, pain management and rehabilitation from injury or post surgery. She has post-graduate training in pregnancy and infant massage.
Sonya has a special interest in helping people with headaches, stress (studies show that stress and tension account for up to 80-90% of health problems), pre and post-pregnancy, athletes, and seniors.
Sonya was born and raised in Kingston and enjoys all the area has to offer. When not working she enjoys spending time with her husband and two boys ages 5 and 7, the outdoors, cooking, gardening and crafts.
